Accuracy is a percentage that says how close your moves were to Stockfish’s. Paste a Chess.com or Lichess username, a game link or a PGN, open the game, and once it is analyzed you will see accuracy for both sides. Below are average values by rating to compare against.
Good chess accuracy by rating
We measured this from our own analyses. The table shows the average accuracy of rapid Chess.com games that chess.rodeo analyzed, next to what Chess.com itself reported for the same games.

Measured on 11 September 2026 across 9,819 player-sides that carry both numbers. The band is the player’s rating in that same game.
The gap changes with rating: almost 18 points at the bottom, 7 at the top. The two sites use different scales, so progress can only be tracked within one of them. The same number means different things: 78% on Chess.com is above the 1200-1800 average, while on chess.rodeo it is below even the under-800 average.
What changes your accuracy
- Time control. Bullet and blitz leave less time to calculate than rapid or classical, and accuracy is usually lower.
- Position type. In a sharp tactical position one inaccuracy costs more than in a quiet endgame.
How chess accuracy is calculated
chess.rodeo computes accuracy from engine evaluations:
- Stockfish evaluates the position before and after the move.
- The evaluation lost is converted into lost winning chances.
- The lost chances become the move’s accuracy through the Lichess formula.
- The game’s accuracy is built from the accuracy of every move.
Chess.com, Lichess, and chess.rodeo
Chess.com computes accuracy with its own CAPS formula; chess.rodeo uses the Lichess win-probability formula. Lichess uses the same formula but evaluates the positions itself, so the percentage here can differ from Lichess’s as well. To track progress, compare games within one system.
